14 New Belts Earned at HAITO Karate’s Summer Grading

Our latest belt grading at HAITO Karate Peterborough was certainly one to remember. With the recent heatwave making normal training conditions difficult, we made the unusual decision to begin early in the morning so that everyone could complete the grading safely.

Anyone who knows Sensei knows that early mornings are not exactly a favourite—but sometimes karate requires sacrifice from everyone!

Although the grading group was smaller than usual because many students are currently busy with tournament preparations, the standard and intensity remained as high as ever. For our highest-graded students, the examination lasted approximately four and a half hours.

Nothing was removed from the programme and no shortcuts were taken.

Demonstrating Strong Karate Fundamentals

Our new 10th KYU students performed their Kihon with excellent focus and determination. Kihon refers to the fundamental techniques of karate, including punches, blocks, stances and kicks. These foundations are essential for every student, regardless of experience or belt level.

The more advanced students faced increasingly demanding combinations, Kata and Kumite.

Kata requires students to demonstrate structured sequences of techniques with accuracy, power, balance and concentration. Kumite, or sparring, tests their ability to apply those techniques while remaining controlled, disciplined and mentally focused.

Completing all of this in challenging summer conditions required considerable physical and mental strength.

Watching every student continue to push through fatigue showed exactly what they are capable of. Their new belts were not simply given to them—they were earned through consistent training, resilience and hard work.

No Shortcuts—Only Hard Work

A total of 14 new belts were earned during the grading, and we could not be prouder of how every student performed.

Belt gradings are not only about demonstrating techniques. They test discipline, attitude, perseverance and the ability to continue when things become difficult. Every student showed these qualities throughout the day.

Thank you as well to the families who continue to support our students through regular training, tournament preparation and important events such as belt gradings. Your encouragement plays a major role in their progress.

Well done to everyone who graded. You faced a demanding challenge, gave your best and earned the right to take the next step in your karate journey.
