On February 15th, Sensei Gabi, the owner and instructor of HAITO Karate and Self-Defence Club, was invited to be a guest on the PCRFM Sports Show, hosted by Dipam Joshi and Nilesh Patel. The show features local and regional sports news, views, and features from around Peterborough.
What is HAITO Karate and Self-Defence Club?
HAITO Karate and Self-Defence Club is a new place for Martial Arts in Peterborough, founded by Sensei Gabi at the end of 2022. The club offers 8 classes a week for kids, teenagers, and adults at two locations: Hampton and Bretton. The club teaches a unique blend of Kyokushin Karate and self-defence techniques, inspired by various Martial Arts such as Kyokushin Karate, Mixed Martial Arts, Judo, Krav Maga, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jujitsu, and Aikido. The club’s mission is to positively change people’s lives by providing knowledge and training guidance to empower students while learning life-saving and changing Martial Arts skills.
What did Sensei Gabi talk about on the show?
Sensei Gabi shared her personal story of how she started her Karate journey in 2004 when she was just 12 years old. She explained how she practised different Martial Arts over the years, which allowed her to gain a different perspective than most Martial Artists. She also revealed how she finally decided to open her own Karate and Self-Defence Club in Peterborough, after moving to the UK in 2014.
Sensei Gabi also spoke about the benefits of Karate and self-defence for children, teens, and adults. She highlighted how Martial Arts can help with building up character, discipline, and confidence, as well as improving physical and mental health. She also emphasized how Karate can teach valuable skills such as respect, compassion, and empathy.
Sensei Gabi also expressed her passion for being a Karate instructor (Sensei) and why she thinks it is the best job in the world. She said that she loves seeing her students grow and progress in their Martial Arts journey, as well as helping them overcome their challenges and achieve their goals. She also said that she enjoys being part of a supportive and caring community at HAITO Karate and Self-Defence Club. Lastly, she shared some plans for the club’s future and that Sensei Gabi is really looking forward to entering tournaments with her students, having seminars and spreading awareness of martial arts.
